Artist Statement
My passion is cultivating culture, having learned through my own experiences the best way to do that is complete immersion. My work aims to do the same for my audience and fellow artists.
As a child I would use nature as both inspiration and an escape. Once becoming an adult people and culture have become my passion. My art synthesizes these two worlds leaving little need for boundaries of media in execution, all that is required is precision. In my work you can find representation of the human spirit by way of movement and honor for nature in the moments of stillness. I find it very exciting to expose the huge range of nature in relation to many different cultures. Nature has a fantastic sense of humor and the human spirit can grow into unimaginable heights if nurtured. Both can also be savage, but there is always growth.
With the use of dynamic stage pictures, unexpected sound techniques, rich lighting, and approachable storytelling, I aim to create a world for my audience to explore that evolves with the story. It has taken years of exploration, experimentation and lessons to learn how to express this in my direction and my only hope is it opens eyes to what the viewer may not know or perhaps forgot long ago and to move forward with a stronger sense of self and awareness that he/she is our culture, to honor that, and do great things.
